Super Kindergarten Sleuths!

Who pushed Humpty Dumpty off the Wall?

That was the question our kindergarten students were asked to investigate. Clues found at the scene were red glittery footprints, a piece of toast, the smell of roses and an unusual fingerprint.    After checking out all of the clues, questioning the suspects and guidance from Deputy Proctor, they discovered it was Little Red Riding Hood!   Such a fun way to incorporate our high order thinking skills!

Welcome to Spring!

We have been busy as bees in Primary Montessori!    Our latest unit of study included an Amazing visit from Mr. Arnie from Carolina Wildlife Wild Wonders!  The students enjoyed learning hands on about amphibians. reptiles, birds and mammals! He brought a long, a tree frog, box turtle, albino blue bird and an opossum.  Take a look....

It truly was a WILD adventure!

When we return from spring break we will begin a unit on life cycles.  We will explore frogs, turtles and butterflies!   Happy Spring Break everyone!  Enjoy your time with family and friends!

Here's a look at few fun things we have been doing!

Mrs. Helzer's class has been hatching chicks! We have been able to stop by and take a peek.

We had a visit from Dr. Doug. He came to speak to us about ocean life!  The children got to explore many fun ocean specimens!

Cat in the Hat Fun!

Last week we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday!  After reading the story, The Cat in the Hat, kindergarten students completed a STEM activity to see how many hats they could stack. The children were divided into groups. Each group took turns stacking read cups to see how tall their hat tower could reach.  The students synergized together and had an awesome time working together.

Primary Happenings

A lot has been happening in Primary Montessori over the past month.  We have studied polar animals and penguins, celebrated the 100th day of school, and are currently learning about the Olympics.  Last Friday we hosted Montessori's Community Meeting.  The students learned about the opening ceremonies of the Olympics and we talked about the focus of the Olympics is bring harmony and peace among the countries of the world, just like we promote harmony and peace in Montessori.  We held our own opening ceremony and passed a torch while singing together.  It has been a great few weeks!

Happy New Year

Welcome back families!  We are currently working on an author study.  We are reading the stories
The Mitten and The Hat by Jan Brett.  Students are learning how to name the characters and setting of a story.  We are also working on retelling a story with details.
